Sydney South: Royal National Park Aboriginal Walking Tour
Natcha Cultural Tours | Royal National Park, Dharawal Country
Ancient Stories.
Living Country.
Rock art, engravings, and a smoking ceremony deep in one of the world's oldest national parks.
Royal National Park is one of the oldest national parks in the world. For the Dharawal people, it has always been home. Long before it was mapped, named, or protected under colonial law, this Country held the ceremonies, knowledge, and livelihoods of a people whose connection to this land has never been broken.
This three-hour cultural experience takes you into the heart of Dharawal Country. Led by an Aboriginal guide of Dharawal descent, you will be welcomed with a smoking ceremony, walk established tracks through bushland and coastal scenery, and visit sacred rock art and engraving sites that Eric Brown is authorised by NSW National Parks to interpret. This is cultural knowledge shared on the land it belongs to.
This is not a history lesson. This is living culture.
What You Will Experience
Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony
The experience opens with a smoking ceremony led by a local custodian. You are formally welcomed to Dharawal Country and the significance of this practice is shared before the walk begins.
Guided Walk Through Bushland and Coastal Scenery
Walk established tracks through the Royal National Park with your guide. Along the way, hear about the Dharawal people's relationship with this land and sea country, including traditional knowledge of food, medicine, and place.
Rock Art, Engravings, and Midden Interpretation
Visit Aboriginal cultural heritage sites, including rock engravings and midden areas at accessible locations within the park. Eric Brown holds authorisation from NSW National Parks to interpret these sites, sharing stories that have been carried across generations.
Cultural Teachings on Country
Hear Dharawal cultural teachings on respect for Country, custodianship, and the ongoing connection between the Dharawal people and this coastal landscape. This is not a story of the past.
